This highly interactive masterclass with Chris and Paul will provide delegates with:
An approach for comparing their KM programme with global exemplars
An insight into the mindset of the KM assessor
An understanding of how KM can be implemented and embedded into operational processes
An opportunity to conduct a KM Canvas assessment of their KM programme
An action plan to prepare for an ISO KM assessment and certification.
The masterclass will use “The KM Cookbook: Stories and strategies for organisations exploring Knowledge Management Standard ISO 30401” as a backdrop. It will take a deep dive into the KM Chef’s Canvas (see below) highlighting good and innovative KM practices while examining the skills needed for effective and measurable knowledge management.
Chris and Paul will draw on more than 75 years’ experience as business leaders, consultants and advisors to diverse businesses. They will use illustrations from numerous global KM assignments they’ve conducted and share the approach used to create the book.
Background
The publication of a set of KM Standards (ISO 30401) in 2018 presented organisational Knowledge & Information Management Professionals with an opportunity to take a giant step along the path to corporate legitimacy. But what might they need to do and where can they get advice?
Authors Chris Collison, Paul Corney and Patricia Eng felt the ISO KM Standard was a great topic around which to base a book (“KM Cookbook”) that:
draws on great examples (‘menu chapters’) from 16 leading global organisations;
assesses where we felt they met or exceeded the new standard; and
highlights aspects from their KM Programmes others might find inspirational.
As we progressed through the interviews and writing of these ‘menu chapters’, we kept stumbling on memorable examples which we wanted to curate for the reader. A Chef’s Specials chapter acts as a summary of the Menus and highlights where we feel those KM programmes meet or exceed the KM Chef’s Canvas, which is our approach to presenting the requirements of ISO 30401 in a one-page visualisation.
This Canvas can be used to prepare for ISO accreditation, or as a lens through which to view an existing KM programme.
The Masterclass is to be conducted in a trusting environment, applying the “Chatham House Rule”; it will be highly interactive with time for self-reflection. Each delegate will be encouraged to contribute fully so that we can all learn from and share experiences.
Who should attend & why?
This masterclass will be of value to anyone involved in Knowledge Management in their organisation. It is likely to be of most benefit to practicing Knowledge Professionals / Knowledge champions, as well as those in Quality Management, HR, Learning & Training / Organisational Development, who have to ensure their future professionals are equipped to meet the challenges of a fast-changing business environment.
